Amazon recently invested heavily in artificial intelligence to help order fulfillment packers decide which shipping package to use — an envelope or a box — for a particular customer’s purchase. Replacing a box with an envelope when possible has helped the

mega-retailer reduce the weight of its outbound packages by one-third since 2015.

But it turns out that a high percentage of ecommerce shoppers are quite happy with the box. Results from the 7th annual Dotcom Distribution annual ecommerce consumer study shows that 82% of online shoppers prefer receiving their order in a corrugated box versus a poly bag.
